joke's on me

yep, i have a parasite. joke's on me!  i went and got tested friday and it came out positive.  most of our house actually has the parasite which is a huge bummer.  some are feeling worse than others, but luckily i'm feeling okay.  it is so hard to be sick in a different country, let alone, straight up poverty, but i know i can get through it and it is just part of the experience.  this parasite is an amoebic parasite, which means it feeds off my cells and then goes dormant for a little bit while laying eggs.  once the eggs hatch, the parasite comes back full force and that's when you get really sick.  fortunately i caught mine before it laid eggs and am on an antibiotic.  let's hope this stuff works, people.  i only have a couple of weeks left and i'm trying to make the most of it.  i want to be able to leave here knowing that i did the best i could to serve the people here.  i know i am here for a purpose and i have already learned so much by experiencing the culture here: things about the people and things about myself that i wouldn't have learned any other way.  i can't remember who said it but i love the quote, "we can do hard things".  it's true, we can, as long as we have the faith and strength to keep pushing forward.
